New for 2017 Lincoln MKZ

The big news with the revised 2017 Lincoln MKZ sedan is the automaker's 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6 at the top of the lineup. The new engine is rated at 350 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque for front-drive versions, while opting for all-wheel drive boosts horsepower to 400. With the introduction of the 3.0-liter V-6, the 3.7-liter, naturally aspirated V-6 (300 hp and 277 lb-ft) will no longer be available. Lincoln also tweaked the base 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four, which makes 5 horsepower and 5 lb-ft of torque more than before for a total of 245 hp and 275 lb-ft. A heavily revised front fascia ditches Lincoln's long-running butterfly-inspired grille for a rectangular design that mimics the flagship Continental sedan. Inside, the center console feature revised switchgear with more buttons and knobs to replace the previous capacitive touch-based adjusters. USB ports have been moved for easier access, and two new options have been added to the Black Label interior customization program.

Vehicle Summary of Lincoln MKZ

While the MKZ isn't Lincoln's entry-level vehicle (that's the Lincoln MKC's job), it is the automaker's least expensive sedan, sitting below the new flagship Continental, which replaces the outgoing MKS in the lineup.

2017 Lincoln MKZ Overview

The 2017 Lincoln MKZ is offered with a varied powertrain lineup topped by the new 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6. Serving as the base engine is a 245-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4 with 275 lb-ft of torque (5 hp and 5 lb-ft more than model-year 2016), with front or all-wheel drive. New for 2017 is a twin-turbo V-6 that makes 350 hp and 400 lb-ft for the front-drive version, and 400 hp when equipped with all-wheel drive. Both engines are paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.

An MKZ hybrid is the most fuel efficient option and combines a 2.0-liter inline-four with an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery pack for an EPA rating of 41/38 mpg city/highway. Meanwhile, the 2.0-liter engine is EPA rated at 21/31 mpg (front-wheel drive) and 20/28 mpg with all-wheel drive. EPA figures for the twin-turbo V-6 are 18/27 mpg (front-wheel drive) and 17/26 mpg (all-wheel drive).

Safety Summary of Lincoln MKZ

The NHTSA awarded the 2017 MKZ sedan a five-star overall rating. While the sedan earn four stars in the NHTSA's rollover test, it achieved five stars for side crash protection. The IIHS has yet to evaluate a 2017 Lincoln MKZ, but the 2017 Ford Fusion on which the Lincoln is based received a Top Safety Pick+ rating and top marks for front crash prevention (with help from active safety tech).
